MySQL Performance Audits

We are excited to announce that we are now providing highly competitive MySQL performance audits which include a complete overview of your current MySQL setup.

The MySQL performance audit includes our recommendations to help you maximise the performance of your existing investment and to build additional capacity for future growth.

The following describes the headings of a typical MySQL performance audit report:

  • Server hardware health check
  • Operating system review
  • Application and system architecture
  • Table and query design
  • Indexing performance and coverage
  • Current capacity vs. future demands
  • Identification of current bottlenecks and any emergency remedial work required
  • Our recommendations and summary

Our workflow process involves accessing your system onsite or remotely, gathering the necessary data and then constructing a report. We are also happy to quote for our expert engineers to perform any or all of the required changes we identify.

We can perform two types of audit; non-invasive and standard. Non-invasive requires that we do not install any audit tools and collect no identifiable information (such as table names) or slow query logs. A standard audit will involve running basic python scripts to automate the collection of certain configuration data.

A non-invasive audit will require a certain amount of additional time to gather the necessary data manually. The amount of extra time is dependent on the number of servers and data collection required. We may be limited in what we can do regarding optimising of table and index design; this depends on the level of access we are permitted which can be discussed prior to work beginning.

It is important to note that both audit types do not take copies of actual table data. We only collect global configuration data, MySQL configuration data and anonymous counters (such as number of unauthorised access attempts and slow query log %).

We can also provide other services such as scale-out and scale-up consultancy, Master-Master replication and Cluster configuration, benchmarking and capacity checks and architectural design guidance.

Being AWS approved consultants we have experience with Amazon RDS, both in standard mode and coupled with Auto Scale, so if you are considering Cloud managed services as an option for your next MySQL deployment, please get in touch to see how we can help you.
